Maa Tanuvasa was born on
November 6, 1970 in American Samoa and moved to Oahu, Hawaii. While at Mililani High
School, he was selected as an Oahu Interscholastic All-Star in both Football and Track.
Tanuvasa finished his
three-year career at the University of Hawaii with 190 tackles (116 solo) and 10 sacks. As
a senior he had 84 tackles (57 solo) and 10 sacks. He posted 41 stops (27 solo) as a
junior and 65 (32 solo) as a sophomore.
In Samoan, his name means
"rock".
