In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole

Lately, the "In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole Guestbook" has been a difficult task to upkeep on a regular basis. As a result, e-Hawaii.com was generous enough to offer some space where the guestbook process is somewhat automated. I hope you enjoy the "new" look. My apologies for any inconvenience(s) this has caused.

My wife and I were vacationing on Kauai when we heard the live version of "White Sandy Beach" on the radio. What a beautiful song, what a beautiful voice! And in the talking he did before starting the song, you could feel the love flowing between the singer and the audience.

I had to have this record! But the announcer never said who the artist was. I vowed I would look it up on the Internet when I got back to the mainland.

Two days later, I was leaving a souvenir shop when a CD display caught my eye. I picked up a CD, "IZ - The Man and His Music", and turned it over. There it was: "White Sandy Beach"! I couldn't help but feel I was MEANT to have this CD.

I listened to it out in the car, happy to have found this wonderfful artist, hoping to see him in concert one day. It wasn't until I read the liner notes that I found out that Iz had passed away.

I wish I had heard you years ago, Iz. I wish I could have met you. I found you and lost you on the same day. But, like all your other fans, I'll always have your music, which came from your heart, to live inside of mine.

Bob (a braddah haole)

I've been a fan of Isarel Kamakawiwo`ole for many years and when he died it felt like a peice of Hawai`i died with him. There will never be another man like Iz, I'm sure that everyone will miss his smile, jokes, and the warm feeling of Aloha when he is around. I send out my condolences to the family of Isarel Kamakawiwo`ole, may God bless you all. I know that his memory will live on forever in his music, and I know that his memory will never die as long us Hawaiians keep his music alive ONIPA`A

I was in on vacation in Maui last month and wanted to bring back some Aloha music. I walked into a music store in Kahului on the last day of my trip and asked the clerk what she recommended for traditional music. IZ's "In dis life" was what she recommended.

I am so glad to have shared the music IZ made, it has made a big impact on me.

One love, Aloha! Martin

Unfortunately, we never had the chance to see Iz in concert. We have been heavily into contemporary Hawaiian music for a number of years. We have all of Iz's CDs, and they have been played over, and over, and over!

I wish we would have had the opportunity to see him in concert, but the timing never quite worked out... that would have such a lasting memory.

I was insipered to pick up my ukulele everyday to play his music. It was a challange for myself to try and learn the chords of his songs. I wish I could have met my musical idol.

I moved to arkansas this year July, 1999. and miss Hawaii and Bro IZ's music so bad, I bought 3 of his C.D's before I moved because I knew that over here I would never hear his beautiful voice again. I was listaening to his C.D. and "White Sandy Beach" and "In this life" came on the C.D. and I could not help myself-- I started to cry!! I miss Hawaii, the people, and the music soooo bad. its killing me. Please tell Bro. Iz's wife and family I loved him and all Hawaiian music, Jawaiian, and all the people, even in Arkansas Bro. Iz lives on in my heat and in his music. Take care and God bless you all, ALOHA and Mahalo for the music of Bro. IZ. Forever a loving fan, Pamela Stanton, Hawaiian name, Ku'ulei Lauai

I just got back from a two week vacation (one on the Big Island, and one on Kauai). I fell in love with his music. I bought three of his CD's, and only wished I had bought more. I cannot find any here. His voice was beautiful and haunting. He'll be missed.

I just wanted to say that when I lived in Hawaii, I loved listening to Bruddah Iz sing his Hawaiian music. I remember going to one of his birthday bash concerts at the Shell. I have all of his CD's and now that I live in Virginia I play them all the time to remind me of my island home.

I just feel compelled to tell yout that just a few days ago my brother david introduced me to the music Of Bruddah IZ only a few days ago. I love the Hawaiian people and have so much respect for the culture. I can't tell you how much Israels' music has touched my heart in only a short time. When I hear him sing "White Sandy Beach" with his sweet melodic voice it brings a tear to my eye.

The family took a vacation to Hawaii last week and I picked up "IZ IN CONCERT". I saw his CD's all over. I wondered who this guy was! I decided to buy a tape for myself and was pleasantly suprised how much myself and my family enjoyed it. We have been back to the mainland now for about a week and we are still listening to it. I hope I can find his other work here. I didn't even know IZ had passed away until I read the jacket in the tape. I still can't believe it. I have been a Cecilio & Kapono fan for years and now I have found someone else I can enjoy!! Thank you, Ken Chavez & Family
