In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole

Lately, the "In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole Guestbook" has been a difficult task to upkeep on a regular basis. As a result, e-Hawaii.com was generous enough to offer some space where the guestbook process is somewhat automated. I hope you enjoy the "new" look. My apologies for any inconvenience(s) this has caused.

Comments: While spending three months in Hawaii, I was riding in the truck fromm Waianae to Honolulu when I heard the haunting "Over the Rainbow." I remarked about it; and then and there I was "introduced" to IZ. I was very moved by the opening and closing of the "Facing Future" album... and very saddened by his death. Aloha.

I feel like I have lost a close friend even though we never met. He is singing for Jesus now. I am thankful for being introduced to our brother. Ron Wade, 21OO Lafayette Dr., Longview, Tx. 756O1.

Comments: Dearest Family of Israel, I was so pleased to find this website. My husband was born in Hawaii and comes from a family of seven children. We both love Hawiian music but there is nothing that compares to the music of Israel. We live in Laugna Beach, California in a cottage by the sea. We call it the cottage of the angels and when I first heard Israel sing I told Al this man has the voice of an angel. We play his music at least twice a week just to keep our lives in perspective.. Our hearts our broken that this incredible human spirit had to leave this earth at such a young and promising age but we also believe God takes the young because they were only to be here a short time to leave a legacy and teach the rest of us mortal humans lessons that will allow us to evolve and pass on a similar legacy of understanding, compassion and love. He will always be a guiding light and the most beautiful of all angels that come into our home. We hope your life is filled with fond memories and and the aloha we feel when we listen to his music. Mahalo nui loa, Penny and Al Newman

Comments: I am touched by what little I have heard of IZ's work. What roped me in was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." I'm sure I'm not the only one has been deeply touched. I am saddened to hear that IZ has passed before I got a chance to know of him while he was alive, and yet I accept the importance of death in our lives. It is a reminder of the precious treasure we have been freely given to make something out of nothing, to experience but a moment in the sun, if not more. I have a wonderful collection of music to explore, thanks to one who made the effort to sing loud and clear while the opportunity to do so was his. Thanks IZ, wherever you are, Eric

Comments: The 1st time i seen IZ was in 1976 on Kauai. Our basketball team from Honoka'a High School went to play on kauai during the pre-season. IZ and his brahdah Skippy was eating breakfast at the Tip Top Hotel. The last time i seen him was at his concert in Northern California. We drove 2 hours to see the legend. I got an autograph from him, but couldn't speak. I was in total awe, and the "Mana" around this man was unbelieveable and that kept me speechless. I wish i could have spoken to IZ. I would have told him that his voice and music keeps me "Home". Even if i now live in America, his music and voice brings me "Home" always. Hawai'i will always be "Home" and IZ's music and voice will always be "HAWAI'I". Mahalo Nui Loa Brahdah IZ

Comments: I just discovered IZ during a recent trip to Hawaii for the 1998-1999 New Year. I loved his songs and was charmed by his voice so I bought a collection of his CDs. I was particularly touched by "Johnny Mahoe", and my 10-year-old son loved it. As soon I came back home, I logged on the internet trying to find more information about IZ. A strange feeling of sadness invaded me when I found out that IZ has left this earth in June of 1997. His music really touched me and I guess it will touch more people for ages. IZ, from the little I know about you, I feel that you must have been a very special person.

Comments: On a recent trip to the Big Island I was in a gift shop when I heard this soothing beautiful music. It stopped me in my tracks, it was as if I had been hypnotized by this beautiful voice. I asked the clerk who the musician was and immediately purchased the CD, E ALA E. I have been listening to the CD non-stop since my return home (Mpls., MN.) I found myself wanting to know more about Israel, the person and was very saddened to find out he passed away. I regret I will never have the opportunity to see him in person. My condolences to his family.
