I first heard IZ song Over the Rainbow played at my friends funeral this year. His name was Henry Wyhra and he played for the Everly Brothers and the Beach boys in the 60's in Calgary Alberta Canada. It was emotional yet calming. Iz is truly missed. From Brian in Canada

My family is in love with IZ............we ahve been since my wife was dying of cancer. For months while she laid in bed semiconcious we played IZ over and over and over 24x7 for her. She used to live in Hawaii for years and was in love with the islands. Our goal was to go there together but we never made it. However we belive that IZ comforted her during her ordeal and she passed away peacefully and joined IZ and his music. My goal now is to scatter her ashes in Hawaii.

in a world of pain and suffering, it is so hard to find the love someone needs to continue through life, i cant remember how many times i have thought about giving up. When i first listened to the song 'somewhere over the rainbow' tears formed in my eyes and so it does everytime i listen to it. His voice was as close to a choir of angels as it could get, his soul touching music makes me cry and think about all the good things that life has brought us 'bruddah IZ mainly' not only do i believe in heaven, i believe that when we die we all will get to hear his voice even more so than on earth.

Wow - I didn't know who IZ was until I just saw a video of him tonight on 'The Tube' video channel. I heard his song 'Over the Rainbow' and absolutely loved it. Then I saw on the video that he has passed on from this world. I wish I could have met Israel - I feel like I've known him through this one video though. What a fantastic voice and a beautiful soul.

I love IZ music. I have his over the rainbow playing on my space and get to hear him often. We keep looking for his music here in Palmdale, Calif. and can't seem to find it. My brother's friend is going to send us a cd from Hawaii. I was working as a face and body painter on Maui for 3 months and fell in love with it there. Bruddah IZ was aloha I wish I would of known him. My brother is dying of cancer now and has all of his cd's and listens to him often, his magical sound soothes my surfer brother's soul.

It is only in the past few years that Iz came to my attention when I heard him sing in Finding Forrestor. I had to go back through the credits to see who it was who was singing that beautiful, poignant rendition of Over the Rainbow-What a Wonderful World and found his name. I searched the net and found all of his recordings and they are part of my treasured CD's. Just from his voice I can tell that he had a beautiful soul and must have been revered by the Hawaian people. I am happy that his voice has come into my life.

I became aware of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's music only recently, despite years of learning about ancient Hawaiian religion and culture. My favourite selection is Hawai'i '78! Most of the Hawaiian music I own is that of ceremonial and hula chants. I appreciate his love of his heritage and his connecting traditional and modern music. All celebration of tradition is dear to me, be it my own Irish, Lingala (Zairean), Yoruba-Ibo (Nigerian), Tuscarora- Sioux paternal heritages, the Northern Somali-Arab traditions of AJA and our daughter, and those of all people.
