In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole

Lately, the "In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole Guestbook" has been a difficult task to upkeep on a regular basis. As a result, e-Hawaii.com was generous enough to offer some space where the guestbook process is somewhat automated. I hope you enjoy the "new" look. My apologies for any inconvenience(s) this has caused.

I just recently came across Israel's music. While looking for the ER version of "Over the rainbow" on the enternet, not knowing who sang if or anything. Just guessing, I found it much to my surprise. Israel had a very calming voice, I was sadden to find out he had passed. It's times like this that I am very greatfull to live in thess times, for we can preserve so much, and make many memories. I was so dilited to here Israel's version of Twinkle Twinkle little star, my grand daughters favorite song. I don't know if it is allowed, but I would very much like to teach it to them with the Hawaiian words. If it is allowed, can you please tell me where I can find the lyrics, and how to pronounce the Hawaiian words?

Thank you in advace for you help and understanding. And thank you for allowing us to exprese our sentiments. May Jehovah God bless you and give you strength. Thank you again.

Your late coming fan

Maria

I lost my 18-year old son last month and IZ's music is getting me through. I listen for hours each day. I hope and pray that they have met and are "hanging" on the other side.

IZ, I wish I could have met you. Thank you for your soul and your incredible music. I know your worries and pains are over - the only bright side to losing your greatness off of this earth. Thank you for who you are. I love you, man.

Bruddah IZ, Like they say, Bruddah was Bigger than Life!!! I was stationed at home during your passing from 94-97. During that time I was blessed to witness a few of your concerts. Yes, your voice was Angelic as an Angel's. I currently reside in the PNW where there are quite a few Hawaiians and Hawaiians at heart. We come together as one Big Ohana several times a year. And yes, do believe it. We do make dedications and give our appreciation to our Beloved "HAWAIIAN SUPPAH MAN". I have been practically gone from home now since I joined the Military back in "87" but everytime I pick up my "UKE" I Always make it a habit to play many of songs "IN MEMORY OF BRUDDAH IZ!!!" Bruddah you are truly a Legacy and will never be forgotten!!!

YOU WILL PROBABLY NOT BELIVE THIS, but as I am writing this I am listening to my TV's hawaiian music channel. SO HELP ME GOD, at the very moment I finished typing the last paragraph, Iz' sweet voice came on: "Brother of mine, where can you be?"

That's enough for me, Iz IS over MY rainbow. Soon bruddah, I WILL be "coming home to thee!"

Till we then meet, tanks fo da good times cuz! Mahalo & Aloha Sweet Bruddah! We miss you!!!

Sadly, as we do with so many of our treasures, I, at least, took Iz pretty much for granted. Nevering knowing the man personally, he was "just" another wonderful Hawaiian artist that enriched my life. Since his passing, I of course, with so many others, now realize what a truely special person he was, to have been able to convey so much to us simply by singing his songs. Not many artists can touch so many of us, so very deeply.

I stay Kauai. We get plenty rainbows here. Since Iz' passing, they have taken on even additional beauty, knowing Iz is 'over' them, out there somewhere.

If you want to know Hawaii, listen to Iz! Iz IS Hawaii.

So long now, can it really be, seems like only yesterday. All these feeling from all over the world, what a tribute, and they continue to come in eight years later. After reading them, I sit here with tears on my cheeks and even my chest, once again realizing the tremendous lost we have experienced

I moved to Kauai in '87 and Iz' music became part of my family's Hawaiian experience. We once played an Iz CD everyday while vacationing on the mainland. My wife, Terry; son, Nick; & daughter Danielle, all sang along, learning all the words to every song. We never tired of Iz' voice and music, I think it kept us in touch with home. We probably wore out that CD!

While driving to work, for the first time ever, I heard Iz's version of "Over the Rainbow" on X-M radio.

Overcome with its emotion and listening to wonderful voice and spirit, my eyes filled with tears of memories of Hawaii and what the place means to me and my family.

Rest in peace, brother Iz.

Iz is gone but never to be forgotten. We can't think of anyone but his music when we think of Hawaii and it's soul. We are hunting for a concert or show where someone is singing his music, and has kept his sound alive. No one can sing as he did... Tell us who, when and where. GOD Bless Israel's family and everyone who was apart of his life. The loss had to be so great. Hope we hear from someone~! Thanks!!

My introduction to IZ was @ my sister's funeral in 2002. "Over the Rainbow" plays over in my mind as the family listened to it as we entered the church. Another sister has family links in Hawaii. What a loss when Iz departed this world. I pray he is "over theRainbow", enjoying that beautiful life! Mahalo!

Like others, I too tracked down the beautiful voice singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" - both favorites of mine. What a blessing to find them together sung by one of the most touching and heartfelt voices I've ever heard. Blessings and peace to the Kamakawiwo'ole family and to the many, many fans, old and new.

First time I heard IZ's voice and song "Somewhere over the rainbow/what a wonderful world" was yesterday February 8th 2006 - I cried. His voice sang to my soul...to my spirit.. to my very essence.!! What joy...what hope...what saddness all wrapped up in one glorious voice. Today I cried again when I found this website ... with the knowledge he is now "Over the rainbow with his blue birds" Again the tears come as I listen to his voice and realize what a great gift he was to all mankind. God Bless those who got the chance to celebrate life with him... Glenda - Nova Scotia , Canada

Facing Future is unquestionably the most heart felt album i've ever heard!! Tracks like 'White Sandy Beach of Hawai'i' & of cause 'Somewhere over the rainbow' always make me stop whatever im doing, sit back, shut my eyes & just block everything else out (i'd be lying if i said it had never brought a tear to my eye)! Im constantly recommending the album to friends & colleagues, only for them to say "who?". I then tell them thats its the person who sings the track at the end of 50 First Dates & Meet Joe Black... & every time they are like "Oh My God, I want to hear that album NOW!" My main aim is to of cause to go to Hawai'i to see the island that gave birth to such a beautiful voice & gave inspiration for such lyrics! (im also a huge Bon Jovi fan, but have never thought about travelling to New Jersey, so this says EVERYTHING for IZ)
