In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole

Lately, the "In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole Guestbook" has been a difficult task to upkeep on a regular basis. As a result, e-Hawaii.com was generous enough to offer some space where the guestbook process is somewhat automated. I hope you enjoy the "new" look. My apologies for any inconvenience(s) this has caused.

I have just recently found IZ's music and was so saddened to find out that he had died. However, with his beautiful music, which I listen to daily, IZ lives on!

I'm here in England right now, missing home more than ever. All I have is my uke and my local music cds. IK's Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World is my favorite song. I performed it for the talent show here at school...I brought tears to the audience...it's all from the local pride and IK's memory :) Rest in peace Bruddah IZ

As it stands, I have very recently just learned of the awesome talent that this man possessed, unfortunatly too late, however I feel so blessed that I even got the opportunity to hear what raw power he had....even though I have now listened to some of his music a thousand times over it still gives me goosebumps.....praise God that he may rest in peace

I was just introduced to Israel's music on my recent vacation cruise to Hawaii by my tour bus driver, "Brother Herman." I am deeply grateful and was moved by his version Of "Somewhere Over he Rainbow/What A Wonderful World." I found the CD Facing Future on a stop in Hilo. His spirit is with me now & my condolences to his family; however, the world is better, I know from the spirit in his music.-- Gwendoline Hill

My Daughter was teaching at Punahou when Pele decided to change Big Island a little bit. And I spent some tome visiting with her, and fell in lovw with Hawaii. Hawaii is still beautiful, but there is something missing and Bruddah IZ somehow felt it and was able to put it into his songs. He was truely a Hawaiian Super Man. And I know he is singing for the Ancients, and some of his friends that went before him. But he did wonderful things for all of us while he was with us. He has left a hollow spot that no one will ever fill.

His music is wonderful, and moving with the sweetest voice. I was turned on to his music by friends that live in Kona. While visiting there we would listen to his music every evening, and I bought several of his albums while I was there. Love IZ! I will continue to purchase more albums

My nickname is Haoleus because i am a Haole from the US (mainland, NJ to be exact). That nickname was given to me by my more locally accepted shipmates aboard the USS Cushing stationed in Pearl Harbor.

I remember seeing the Facing Future album at the local record store and thinking the cd would be filled with tribal beats and grunting. I bought it only out of curiosity. Little did i know Iz had the voice of an angel and his cds would be the most prized cds in my entire music collection.

Besides countless hours of enjoyment the cd gave me more of an understanding of Hawaiian culture, history and pride.

Iz helped me understand what a truly beautiful place Hawaii is which i took for granted while i was there. Thanks to him i can bring myself back to when i was there when i listen to his music. I miss Hawaii, its beauty, its people and most of all its music.

Thanks for helping me wake up Iz. Rest in peace always. -Haoleus

I love to sit and listen to IZ. Listening to him is just too relaxing and enjoyable. I was fortunate enough to visit Hawai'i back in Feb. 2003 and after visiting it,it makes me appreciate his music even more. Hawai'i is the only place I've ever visited for such a short time and missed it as much as I have since I've been back home. Listening to IZ sing makes me feel like I'm back in Hawai'i. God Bless You,Bruddah

Bradah Iz, We grew up at the same time. You and I were about 14 years old when I started checking the "sounds out of Waianae". Your music inspired me and many of my bradahs to place Hawaiiana deep in our hearts. I knew your future wife (Marlene Alo) from Halawa Valley, and grew up with their family. I performed on many stages back home, and created memories that will last a lifetime. My kumu's were many: Darryl Lupenui, Obrian Eselu, Uncle George Naope, Edwina Siu, Manea Manuma, John Kaimikaua & Hula Halau O'Kukuna O'Kala. But I will never forget you as the inspiration to my music accomplishments. I memorized your first albums with skippy & the bradah's. That was truly a time to remember and reflect. I left Hawaii in 1978 and attended College in the mainland on a Football Scholarship. I have never travelled away from home by myself. Whenever I was lost, or in an unknown place - I would pull out my guitar and start playing some of your songs. I was back home again and no longer feeling , lost. In fact, I started meeting new people and making new friends with your music & songs as a guide. You have helped me in many ways through the years. Thank You Bradah "IZ". I can't thank you enough for all that you hae meant to me. God Bless to you in Heaven, and to your Ohana back home. I'll see you when the Lord calls me back home.

From my Heart - Greg "Tafa's" Taufa'asau

Words cannot describe what the music of Izrael Kamakawiwo'ole does for me. He penetrates deep into the soul, expresses nothing but pure beauty, peace, hope, and justice. I am all haole on the outside, but have such a deep love for the islands and the people of Hawai'i. IZ has brought peace to my troubled sould on more occasions than I can remember, and he will continue to do so for millions to come. IZ lives in all who listen, really listen. Mahalos

i heard a wonderful song, a rendition of somewhere over the rainbow and what a wonderful world that just blew me away. It was an unadorned accoustic version of these songs that was absolutely brilliant. One man with just his voice and a ukalele produced something so special and so superior to almost any other piece of music i've ever heard. Then i heard that he has since passed away and although all i know of this man is this song i have to say that this news was crushing.

In Russia only a few days ago was shown ER's 8-th season with IZ's song "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". I've never heard His songs before, what a shame! My husband and I discovered Iz about 20 years ago and we purchased our first cd. We always wanted to see him in person, but everytime we were on the islands, he was not performing. We eventually purchased all of his recorded music. When we arrived in Sept of 1997 for our annual trip and discovered his demise we were saddened, but we had always said he had the voice of an angel. He will be saddly missed, but not forgotten by his people and his dedication to the islands nor by his 'people' on the mainland. When we first heard his voice in a commercial, we were exhilirated to know that others would also know the joy of his voice. As the entertainment industry discovers his music, so will many new fans. We miss you, Bruddah!
