In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole

Lately, the "In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole Guestbook" has been a difficult task to upkeep on a regular basis. As a result, e-Hawaii.com was generous enough to offer some space where the guestbook process is somewhat automated. I hope you enjoy the "new" look. My apologies for any inconvenience(s) this has caused.

Latecomer to the music of Brudda IZ. Love the music. Wish I'd been introduced to the man and his music earlier. The music transcend the man and I believe his music will move upcoming generations. My 10 year old can not get enough. She like myself feel a loss in not knowing Brudda while he was still with us.

Ihave spent a lot of time in Hawaii,my wife is a local girl having grown up right below Kam. School. I was introduced to Iz's music shortly after he passed on. Few musicians have had such an effect on me as Iz has had. Growing up in Conn. my only thought of Hawaii was that it was some place I saw on tv, having visited the islands eight or nine times I now understand what why it is so important to preserve what is left of the culture,Iz's music helped me to see and understand this.

I bought "Facing Future" in Berkeley a month ago. It was on the recommended list at Hear Music on 4th Street. I had never heard of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole before.

This is a beautiful album. This music touches me.

Thanks for keeping this website.

My name is Fred Jackson and I am a musician/songwriter in Cleveland,Ohio. I heard "Bruddah IZ" for the first time on the "Meet Joe Black" soundtrack and was deeply moved by the Somewhere over the rainbow/What a wonderful world medley. It caused me to look for more information on the man. I am sorry to learn of his passing,we are a much lesser place without him. I learned of his gentle nature through the internet and can only think "Who else but a gentle man with the voice of an angel could have done such a remarkable piece of music" Thank you, Bruddah IZ. Many of my family members lived on Oahu for many years, myself included. I loved it the minute I stepped of the airplane for the first time. I have grieved leaving it for over 20 years.

I always loved contemporary Hawaiian music, Robert and Roland Cazimero, Keola and Kepona Beamer, Gabby, Bla, ... I could go on an on. And then I discovered Iz. I loved his music and soul immediately. I mourn his passing. However, he still lives on in his music

I have only come to know if Israel of late. With the movie Meet Joe Black and the beautiful use of his song in the eToys.com commercial, I promise you his name is being spread to the masses. I was one of those. It is fitting tribute to such a unique human being that others of us are discovering his beauty even after he has left this playground. Sincerely, A boy from Kansas

My feelings continue to grow for IZ, his music, and his message. During my recent trip to Hawaii I heard his music everywhere and felt his presence in the warm and welcoming people I talked with about him. May his message and spirit continue to grow.

I first heard "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" when Isresl was featured on NPR back in 1996. I thought the song was one of the most beautiful I'd ever heard. I missed the artist name and as time went by forgot about it. Last night I watched "Meet Joe Black", heard the song, found the artist and went to the net to search. I found the song, downloaded it and wanted more. Further searching found his music catalog and where I could order a CD. And then I found the tributes. I am so saddened to learn that IZ is no longer with us. The song still moves me deeply. He is missed before I ever got to know him. Jim

I felt so awkward when I discovered that this artist, that I enjoyed immensely the very first time I heard one of his songs, was deceased. I must have been in the clouds or something but I regret this loss of such a fine musician. I was thinking of buying a ukelele and learning the chords for "somewhere over the rainbow". That is how I ended up on this web site. Would it be possible to get the music for this song so that I could play it myself, for fun? Any help would be appreciated. Again, I am sure that I share this loss with many and will continue to listen to his music and remember.

I first heard blessed Israel on Santa Monica public radio, singing "Over the Rainbow". It was straight through the heart to the soul. This angelic voice touched me so, that when the announcer mentioned that Iz had passed on, it was instantly clear that somehow, somewhere, he IS alive.

Put in a song for us, Bruddah

Being a local boy that has not been home for a long time, the only real ties of home was my own cooking that became mainland style, the Honolulu magazines, etc. But it was the music of Bruddah IZ that made me feel at home. NOT really the music but the TRUE ALOHA that he ALWAYS "GAVE". He was and is the real ALOHA. I will miss his aloha but will be thankful for the memories he has shared through his music. I was able to see the television tribute to home and although I was not there I could feel the love and aloha that the islands had for bruddah IZ. All people truley loved him.
