Larry Beil
Larry Beil was born January 7, 1961. He was raised in the Bronx, N.Y. before moving to Hawaii with his family at the age of 17. Beil attended the University of Hawaii-Manoa and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. From 1982-1989, he work for KGMB, covering sports news and later becoming the Sports Director. He was also known as being the voice of Rainbow sports, covering UH football and basketball from 1986-1989. From 1989-1995, he made a move to Oakland, California and became the weekend sports anchor and field reporter for KTVU. During this time, he also did play-by-play commentary for the San Francisco Bay Area college basketball teams and freelance basketball commentary for ESPN and SportsChannel Pacific. Beil joined ESPN full-time in March 1985. While primarily a SportsCenter co-anchor, he has also called play-by-play games for ESPN's college football, basketball and Arena Football games. He is now with ABC7, San Francisco as a weekend Sports anchor. Larry Beil and his wife Sharla (a former professional hula dancer and Hawaiian Airlines flight attendant) have two daughters.
