I recently visited The Ilands for the first time and learned about Iz's music. I am so sorry I never got to see him perform I was to young. His music has really touched me and I have become a fan. It is without a doubt that this world is a much better one because Iz was here. I hope his spirit continues to touch other people lime it touched me. As recent discoverers of IZ, we have been reading all we can on this magnificent man, his music, his family and the Hawai'ian culture.
We celebrated our 25th anniversary in Maui and, quite by accident, while at the Maui Ocean center, happened upon an album of his. Listened to a couple of clips and we both fell instantly in love with his clear, lovely voice. Then we were devastated to learn he had since passed on.
Now, we will only be able to celebrate his life through his recordings.

I may be 1 of the only people not introd to Iz's music through Over The Rainbow. The 1st music of his I heard was his live version of Ahi Wela. I was stuned by the sound I heard right from the 1st note. His music & aloha has inspired me to explore my Hawaiian roots (not Hawaiian by blood, but my family has lived in there for over a 100 years). I've built a collection of Hawaiian music (including every Iz album). Learned to play the uke, learned some Hawaiian, and refound my love of saimin and portagee sausage! Thank you, bradda, for your gift of music. I'm sad to learn that I was on Oahu during the peak of your popularity and didn't know of you. I wish I could have seen you live. I was also there during your Makaha Sons days. It's truly special that when I was last there, teens were clamoring over the release of Alone In IZ World at a record mart in Hanalei. IZ's "Over the Rainbow" struck a chord within me... I had first heard it on the ER episode where Dr. Green dies in Hawaii, but never knew who is singing it. I have spent a lot trying to find out the singer and the song itself. I am now discovering the work of Bruddah IZ.

I just moved here from the mainland, and my friends mother handed me "Iz, the man and his music,in concert. I can't tell you how much I love this man, and how spiritual and mystical his prescence in my life has been ever since. His music has touched my soul, in more ways than one. The first time I heard "White Sandy Beach" I brokedown in tears! There are very few things in this life that you TRULY cherish and hold to your heart. This man's music is one of those. My heart aches and breaks, I cry soft gentle tears whenever I hear Israel- Bruddah IZ's voice sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". And this was before he passed away. Now when I listen to him, my heart sings with joy through soft tears still gently flowing with such an ache in my heart. His voice summizes my feelings in my life- about life and how sad my children will be without me and I without them. Bruddah Iz was one of the purest, most natural voices I have ever heard. I have a hard time holding back tears listening to his "over the rainbow", I even tear up thinking about his song while writing this. When did i get so soft ? It is a shame we only had him for a short time, but what a gift to the world to have had him here at all. Everytime I hear him sing, I immediately think of Hawaii, and go back to the wonderful day I got married on the beach in Maui. I thank him for for his beautiful music. Mahalo Bruddah !

Aloha. Uncle IZ will be missed by all aloha islanders. I never had the opportunity to know this man before his death, but my mother passed away two years ago and she loved the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". I had heard his version just before her passing and bought most of CD's! We used more than one at my mother's funeral. He must have been an incredible person to play with such feeling! Thank God I'm not the only one. I heard Somewhere Over the Rainbow for the first time in the car today and it brought tears to my eyes. I wondered why I was getting so emotional - and then I looked up the Bruddah and saw that he affects everyone in the same way. I feel foolish because you all have had him in your life for so long...
