I recently became a fan after hearing "over the rainbow" on the CBS show "Cold Case" and from that moment on I needed to know the angelic voice of the artist. It wasn't until I saw the movie "50 first dates" that I learned more and to my dissappointment, he is no longer with us. I feel that his version was better than the original! More touching and for me it I felt that his version was from the heart! I hope to own at least one copy of his cd's. Unfortunately being unemployed since 09/04 has made that almost impossible.

I just picked up my first IZ cd "Facing Future" after hearing Somewhere Over the Rainbow and having to own it once and for all. I ended up falling in love with all of the songs on this CD. What a truly talented man and what beautiful music that will be greatly missed.

I saw Isreal in Hilo in 1996. He was wonderful. I lived in Hilo for 7 years. I'm an island girl from the Dominican Republic. I have never felt more Hawaiian than the night I saw and heard IZ.

I first heard over the rainbow/wonderful world in an episode of E.R. and was dissapointed not to read in the credits who the singer was. Then I happened to watch the Sean Connery movie Finding Forrester and finally found out who the song belonged to. I have subsequently logged onto this page and found out about the death of IZ which just so happens to coincide with my birthday. I just recently discovered this music while in Waikiki in Sept 04. I now have three of IZ's CD's and listen to them all the time. They never leave my car. In '04 - we vacationed in Kona, and in the music rack was Iz- Facing Future. It soon became the music we played the most, and I came home with a copy.
We came back to Kona this year, and I added "Alone in IZ World" to my collection. It was't until I had a chance to read the liner notes that I learned of Iz' death.
I've since bought all of his cds, his songbook and a couple of T-shirts, one for me and one for my grandson. His favorite music is rap, but he, too, loves Iz' music.
I'm sad that Iz has left us, and I wonder what great music and spirit he would have brought us. But I'm glad that so much of his work is still there for us to enjoy.
Even though it's been some years now, and time has a way of easing our sorrow, my heart goes out to Marlene and Ceslieanne, and to all of us for the loss of such a wonderful soul.

The song is unbelievable! Recently I was watching "50 First Dates" and heard this beautiful rendition of "somewhere over the rainbow". I tried to catch the name of the artist on the credits but only saw Israel. I have not long seen the movie "50 First Dates", We dont really got to the movies much so we caught it on TV, a few years after it was made. I was stunned by the song at the end of the movie, "Over The Rainbow", His voice just carried me away and sent a shiver down my spine, It was a fitting end to such a good movie. I wsent to a music store to look for the soundtack, but was shocked when i got home and the tune was not on it. Some ground work i found that it was sung by Israel, I was shocked to find that he had since pasted on. Like many others who have posted here, I was captured forever the first time I heard his voice, and searched until I found all I could. I still cry from missing him, even though I never met him. I have been listening to all of his his CD's for about 4 years now, and I never get tired of them, even though I barely listen to anything else. I think what shines through him to me is some kind of Hope, which has been lost in so many parts of our lives, with all the unbelievably bad world troubles, and the troubles with religions. My own faith in God is very confused, and sometimes I think I am hanging on just by his voice. My favorite song is one of the hymns, "I Ke Alo O Jesu" from E Ala E, which I know by heart even though I don't understand the words. But I get a sense of blessing from it anyway. So Iz, Thanks and thanks and mahalo and mahalo, for doing your job in the world, and doing it so well. I miss you like my own brother.

I get teary eyed everytime I hear a song from IZ. I just recently discovered his music and it saddens me to know he will make music no longer. I do however find joy when I watch my children listen to his music and dance with huge smiles on. He is the kind of guy everybody wants to know and be friends with. What an amazing piece of melody and vocals and uke! Im inspired to buy one now, and like a sap, i've been listening to his somewhere over the rainbow in my room over and over for about 20 minutes now. I don't think Iz realized how special of a song he was doing, one take, at 2 in the morning. To have something like this affect me years after his passing only makes me wish i could have learned about him sooner. I can't wait to go to hawaii.

I've known and loved Iz' music for a while, but after going to Hawaii in May of '05 and seeing the places and things he sings about, I am even more touched by him and his music. It is amazing how much he is still present in Hawaii - his cds are everywhere and his music is still played frequently on the radio.
