wow i never knew he passed away... i just finished watching the movie 50 first dates...and his song he sang was on it...i fell in love with the song. i had to look for it on the internet so i went surfing online and when i came across this site i found out he died a while back and only heard his song now. It's amazing how they still play his song. And my request is that they never stop.

I just want to say I am a new fan of IZ, and his voice is heavenly. I ordered 3 of his CDs and while I was waiting for them, I downloaded Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World from the internet and played it about 100 times. I coudn't get it (or him) out of my mind.
But now I have the CDs Facing Future, Alone in IZ's World and E Ala E. I am happy.
IZ is a wonderful talent. His Hawaiian music is beyond description. He has introduced me to Hawaii. I love him and I've never even met him. I hope to see him in heaven. :)

Aloha. Iz’ “Over the Rainbow” brought tears. I wasn’t alone - many web sites reflected how much he touched people with his beautiful mixture of Hawaiian/country/reggae music - a gentle giant, playing a ukulele & singing like an angel. People from all over the world came to Hawaii for his funeral, then gathered on the internet to pay homage to a man who relished music that he would never have had the opportunity to hear a mere 100 years ago. A man whose voice touched us with his own special & unique creations, fashioned from so many other cultures. “The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky, are also on the faces of people passing by. I see friends shaking hands saying ‘How do you do’ they're really saying ‘I love you.” I hear babies cry & I watch them grow, they’ll learn much more than we'll know & I think to myself, what a wonderful world.” Thank you, Iz. I listen to the morning show of KTIS Christian music here in awesome Minneapolis. This morning my ears were totally mezmerized as I listened to IZ sing his (as KTIS called it) 'interpretation' of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". Ohhhh what a SWEEEEET interpretation it was!!! I have just re-discovered Braddah-Iz. When I was a child, my parents went to Hawaii for a vacation and brought back vinals. Basically, I can remember from my childhood, the "sounds" of Hawaii. The song "Over the Rainbow" was one of their favorites. My parents fell in love with this randition. I recently saw "50 FIrst Dates". I was so moved to hear "Over the Rainbow", for the first time in too many years, that I cried. My wife thought that it was because of the movie...but it was because this randition of "Over the Rainbow" was from Braddah Iz and that he was such a huge part of my childhood. I must admit that the memories that have been remembered and realized since watching "the movie" have been both painful and a comfort. I was hearbroken to learn the man i'd come to love from his song 'Somewhere over the Rainbow', from the movie 'The 50 First Dates' had passed beyond that beautiful Pacific Rainbow. I too watch that same rainbow from the other side of the Pacific Rim (Monterey CA) every chance I get. In the late eighties we discovered Iz, and after that moment we were almost listening to his music constantly. He has really a beautiful pure Hawaiian voice. Every time we hear Iz singing and special “n dis life” we do get very emotional about it. Ones you have heard Iz singing, right a way you do get attached with the pureness of his beautiful voice.
We are a Dutch family and we do live in Holland. But In the sixties and the eighties me and my family were living in Hawaii for about 5 years. And for one thing I’m absolute sure, ones a person have lived in Hawaii for sometime, nothing will be the same anymore for the rest of that person life. The friendly aloha and the hospitality of the Hawaiian people is just unforgettable. We all feel very proud that we were for 5 years part of the Hawaiian community, and learned to know the Hawaiian people, an experience we’ll never forget.

I just heard his rendition of Over The Rainbow in the film 50 first dates. I must have re-listened to this version 50 times right after I heard it. I just couldn't get it out of my head. After I learned who the performer was, I quickly jumped on the Internet to get more info. I was really really sad to hear that he had passed away a few years ago at such a young age. It's a shame. I have only recently heard about Israel, I first heard him sing on the credits for the film 'Meet Joe Black'. I loved it and have spent the last few months trying to find this soundtrack purely to listen to that one song. This man had the voice of an angel. I walk daily and only listen to IZ. I listen to him all day and at night as I try to fall asleep. I was fortunate enough to see him in Honolulu and while I loved his voice then, I have only in the past several years become fanatical about him. I have the dvd Hot Hawaiian Nights and thoroughly love it; however am always deeply saddened that he has passed. I can't help but wonder why no one was able to help him with the weight problem. What a dreadful loss to the world but praise God he left us with so much lovely music. I hope his wife and daughter and the rest of his family and friends remember his spirit.

I was just in Maui. While we were waiting our flight I heard Iz on a CD. I had to have it. Once home I listened to the CD over and over and fell in love with what I perceived as a very gentle and fun loving man. Now I am finding out he passed away. This has saddened me a great deal. I first heard of Israel while viewing pictures on "The week in Pictures". There is a slide show there called America 24/7. The first slide show has a minute of his version of "over the rainbow" playing while the pictures are shown. I loved it because it was sooo soothing to hear him sing and play. I immediately surfed the web to find more about him. I was immediately saddened to find that he had died and at such a young age. I still go back to that slide show every couple of weeks just to hear him sing. My wife often happens into the room while it is playing and smiles and says 'you really like that song, don't you?' I tell just tell her 'yeah'. I can't say more, but that it is simply beautiful.

My lover and I went to Oahu for a vacation , Beautiful Hawaii ( my first visit)heard a song on the radio at the hotel " White Sandy Beach Of Hawaii" it kept playing over and over that it got into my head and heart, went searching for the song and was recomended IZ's cd....fell in love with his voice and have been listening to him ever since,everyday I must hear his songs, it's like a soothing blanket for me.Today while looking for another album of his I came across this memorial, I am shocked and sadden, I had wished I could have seen him in concert. We'd been tripping to Hawaii for several years and fell passionately in love w/IZ on our first trip there. We arrived on June 26, 1997 early in the afternoon, picked up our car and drove to Kahala through Honolulu. The news was everywhere and the memorial services later on broke our hearts. We, too, have every recording available and turn as many people onto his music and his spirit as we can. When it comes to music today, there is no one to compare who can sing a note so perfectly, and not have to rely on background noise, extra riffing, etc. to sing a song. IZ's voice is a gift that we must appreciate for how short a time we had it here with us, even though recordings make it live forever. Hawaii is Aloha, and Brother Iz is Hawaii. They will always serve to remind me to remain humble and appreciate our home. I love and miss you, IZ.

Just want to give a shout out to our big bradda up there, looking down on us, watching over us. his version of "Over the Rainbow" has never really touched me till one day my friend got into a big car accident and died...he was only 16, my age. They made him a memorial video of him and they put this song on it, I cried. Now im loving this song and relize there so much meaning to it...Big MaHaLoS...
