In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole

Lately, the "In Loving Memory - Israel Kamakawiwo`ole Guestbook" has been a difficult task to upkeep on a regular basis. As a result, e-Hawaii.com was generous enough to offer some space where the guestbook process is somewhat automated. I hope you enjoy the "new" look. My apologies for any inconvenience(s) this has caused.

Yesterday, (12/25/00)I discovered IZ. I have been enamored with his rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" since I first heard it in the eToys commercial. I didn't know who performed the song. I only knew that it was magical. I was given the Facing Forward CD as a Christmas present. The entire album is wonderful. I'm grateful that I have been given the chance to hear the music of this amazing and talanted man. I'm just sorry that I wasn't blessed sooner. Peace, Sheila

My husband gave me one of Israel's CD's for Christmas, and it is beautiful. I'm embarassed to say that it was the e- toys commercial that peaked our interest. His voice was so clear and wonderful. We are enjoying it, and think your website is a loving tribute. He is not forgotten. We hope his family is well.

My wife and I just visited Kaua'i and were introduced to IZ's music. We now have "Facing Future" to enjoy at home and remind us of our trip and meeting Israel through his music. My interest in knowing more about his life led me to your web page. Thanks for the information.

Although we had already been living on the mailand for 6 years, we never went with out iz's music, we bought all his cd's and always made sure we kept up on the happin's in hawaii, word of his passing was heart breaking, his music is one of a kind, you know as soon as you hear a few bar's it is iz, I told my wife when I heard e.toys commercial it was "iz" singing. He is one of many hawaiians and yet he is the most outstanding of all time. We will miss him forever. Aloha BRADDAH see you in heaven..

Aloha!

I have been to the Hawaiian islands 3 times and each time I return, I feel like I am coming home. The last time I was there, I studied Lomilomi under Aunty Margaret Machado. It was while I was there on the Big Island that I was introduced to Bruddah IZ's music. After I become Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage, I plan to return to the Hawaiian islands to give back to Hawaii what it has given to me.

Iz's "Facing Future" is one of my favorite CD's. I played "Hawai'i 78" for my mainland(NJ)massage classmates and they became "IZ converts"!!!

Hawaii 78 has become my "mantra". Through IZ's music, I return to Hawaii spirtually/musically, if not physically.

I hope you are able to be compensated from it.

Israel sounded like a real nice person.

I wish I had the opportunity to meet him.

I lived more than 18 Month in Hawai'i, in Honolulu. At that time in 1996 I got to know the Music from IZ. Since that time I've never heard any other Music that touched me so deep in my heard like his Songs. That IZ passed away is an enormous loss. We will always remember him. Love

Peter

Israel,

Your music is wonderful. I am so grateful for the music you gave the world. It is truly beautiful. You were such a talented man. Your music ranges from achingly moving to fun and lively. Your voice was also wonderful. Your music tells the world that you were indeed a special person. Sadly, you left this world too early. I hope that where you may be, you are singing and playing to your heart's content. ~Susan

Thanks for your efforts. His music is beautiful and touched me in a way no other artist has. My husband, Kenny, died August 28, 2000...same cause. I hope he and Iz will meet in heaven...they'd get along famously!

I never knew Iz from live performances, in fact, by the time I came to know and love his music, he was gone already. Physically anyway. The little things I heard about his life encouraged me so much, his statement "When you t'ink no can... can." has brough me through so much in life with it's simple wisdom, put in a way an island boy could understand. I am far from "home" now, living in a mainland that is cold in many ways. One consolation I have on homesick nights, is to play Iz's music. Then I can close my eyes and go home little while. When Iz talks story and jokes on his CDs the pidgin and sense of humor reminds me of friends I have known and lost contact with. But for that moment I am back home. Ans I am happy and lighter inside. Iz, you truly fulfilled your purpose in life, God bless the day you discovered you wanted to play music. The world is a much lighter place because of you. The only other performer i can think of that has an impact like you with your message and depth is Bob Marley. I hope you two get a chance to meet up in heaven and talk story little bit.

Bradda Iz's music has always made my life wonderful. Listening to his music made troubles go away. It was sad when he passed away, though I and the people know he is in a place where he can be happy, and carefree.
