Celebrate national rice month at the 5th Annual Rice Fest – presented by Lundberg Family Farms – on Sunday, September 28th from 11am-5pm at Ward Centers! This year, the event organizers are looking to close off part of Auahi Street (fronting Ward Warehouse) to make it a bona fide street festival with all of your favorite rice-focused food and craft vendors.
As always, the beneficiary for the annual Rice Fest event is Lanakila Meals on Wheels, Hawaii’s largest and only island-wHiide meal service for seniors serving over 250,000 meals each year on over 90 different routes all over Oahu. They will be on site on the 28th accepting your monetary and brown rice donations.
New this year is Rice Fest’s partnership with Yum! Brands (KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell) and their World Hunger Relief #PassTheRedCup Movement which has helped to raise nearly $185 million since 2007 in their attempt to end world hunger.
Event goers can enter for a chance to win a trip to Vegas compliments of Vacations Hawaii, donate to Lanakila Meals on Wheels for a chance to stay at the Sheraton Waikiki compliments of Kyo-Ya Hotels & Resorts, enjoy live entertainment all day, including Kapena (presented by HI*Sessions), take advantage of FREE WiFi compliments of Oceanic Time Warner Cable, purchase official Rice Fest T-shirts at the VH07V booth, and watch an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the largest Loco Moco at 500kg (1,102.31 lbs)!
